Unraveling your gift

Do you know your purpose in life? The reason for your existence? Your gift? If the answer is yes, count yourself lucky! And if not, join the club. I can’t quite remember what sparked my purpose finding mission but I woke up one day and started having ‘whispers’ as Oprah Winfrey sometimes refers to them. That feeling or voice deep within that tells you there’s so much more you could be doing with your life. Meaningful, impactful things. Sounds cliche, right? WRONG!

There’s nothing cliche about existing...about wandering through life with no purpose or direction…about being another ‘rat’ in the race. I often get so inspired (and stressed out) by people around me who have figured out their gifts and purpose and, are using them for the greater good. I used to think that finding one’s purpose was simple but as it turns out you have to do some serious unravelling. I’m not talking about a 30 minute session with yourself, notebook and pen in hand, I’m talking about months and sometimes years of unlearning, learning and relearning (my current favourite phrase).

As I’ve come to realise, self-awareness is such an important part of the ‘journey’ (another favourite word of mine). No matter how much you think you know about yourself, there’s always more to discover. I recently tried the Ikigai concept and when you actually dig deep, you unearth new things about yourself — definitely worth having a go! A lot has been said, written, sung and vlogged about finding and following one’s path. Though opinions remain diverse, the one thing most agree on is that the journey is arduous but rewarding. As I sign off, I leave you with this quote by Vironika Tugaleva:

“To know yourself, you must sacrifice the illusion that you already do.”

In subsequent pieces, I’ll be sharing some bits and bobs about my unravelling so stay tuned!
